Jersey Central Power & Light conducted vegetation management work throughout the month of September in the Sussex County municipalities of Franklin, Fredon, Hampton, Hamburg, Hardyston, Newton, Stillwater, Vernon and Wantage. The work is being performed by certified forestry contractors Jaflo Tree Services and Tree Smith Inc.

The vegetation management work is a part of JCP&L’s program to improve service reliability throughout its 13-county service area.

Trees and tree branches that fall into electric lines are a leading cause of power outages, and when trees and power lines touch, it can create a dangerous condition. JCP&L’s certified contractors have already trimmed trees along more than 1500 miles of the company’s distribution and sub-transmission circuits in 2012.

JCP&L works with municipalities to inform them of vegetation management schedules. Customers living in areas along company right-of-ways are also notified prior to work being done.
