John Cooper, Business Transformation Consultant with Siemens says utilities are increasingly adapting the key changes that are needed to thrive in the future.
The "Utility Death Spiral" is not a foregone conclusion, and more utilities are making the necessary adaptations, according to John Cooper, Business Transformation Consultant with Siemens.
Cooper, speaking at the Energy Times Executive Energy Briefing, said regulators do act as a significant constraint to dramatic change, but that traditional mindsets also play into an industry inertia. He says if utilities were sports teams they would be "professional golfers" because they are "rewarded for doing the same things over and over again." Cooper emphasizes utilities need to find alternative ways to earn money besides through rates.
