Wind gusts up to 110 mph ripped through Salt Lake City, Utah early on Tuesday, resulting in downed trees and debris throughout the Salt Lake Valley and over 170,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers without power.Â
By Wednesday, Rocky Mountain Power had restored power to approximately 60,000 customers and is currently encouraging all customers who remain without power to be prepared for prolonged outages with adequate food, water, back-up batteries, power banks etc. Forecasts indicated high winds through Wednesday, and some restoration efforts could be delayed until the gusts subside to ensure safety.
Additional crews and line personnel have been deployed and are assisting in outage restoration efforts, as well as additional customer care agents.
“We make sure we are well-prepared with crews and equipment for severe weather events,” said Curtis Mansfield, Rocky Mountain Power vice president of operations. “This storm is impacting thousands of customers across our six-state territory and we appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to get everyone restored.”
At least one death has been reported as a result of the storm.Â
