Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) crews have returned home after more than a week spent assisting in the restoration of power for Hurricane Helene victims across Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee. The crews were released by Appalachian Power Company (APCO) following their extensive efforts to restore electricity to approximately 282,000 customers affected by the hurricane.
PSO’s team, which included line crews, servicers, assessors, and fleet mechanics, worked alongside thousands of workers from across the nation to repair the energy grid in challenging conditions marked by fallen trees, debris, and flooding. In total, 7,360 personnel from 27 states participated in the recovery efforts.
During their deployment, PSO crews replaced 1,455 utility poles, 214 miles of electrical wire, and 438 transformers.
As PSO crews return, the company is closely monitoring the situation regarding Hurricane Milton, which is approaching Florida’s west coast. PSO remains prepared to provide mutual aid if necessary.
