NV Energy to Deploy Liquid-Cooled Battery Energy Storage System Outside Las Vegas

Feb. 14, 2023
The system will store and dispatch excess wind and solar power, enabling better use of renewable energy for NV Energy.

Energy storage integrator Energy Vault and battery maker BYD will deploy a 543 MWh Cube Pro liquid-cooled battery energy storage system outside of Las Vegas for NV Energy.

Swiss-based Energy Vault and China’s BYD say they expect the energy storage project to enter commercial service in the second quarter of 2023.

According to BYD, the system will store and dispatch excess wind and solar power, enabling better use of renewable energy for NV Energy. The Cube Pro system is charged daily and designed to dispatch stored renewable energy back onto the power grid when energy demand is at peak.

BYD said the liquid-cooled system allows for an 80% higher energy density from a 2.6 MWh unit.
