Opower has been selected by Hydro Ottawa to help customers save energy and money during the summer’s hottest days. With the selection, Hydro Ottawa becomes the first Canadian utility to deploy Opower’s Behavioral Demand Response (BDR) solution, driven by a collaboration with the Ontario Ministry of Energy.
The solution helps utilities like Hydro Ottawa engage their customers with highly personalized communications before and after hours of peak energy use. The alerts provide steps they can take to reduce their energy consumption during peak use periods on the hottest days, saving money and lowering their monthly bills in the process.
“We’re always looking for ways to deliver more value to our customers, and we think this program will give all of our customers a great way to save energy and money,” said Hydro Ottawa CEO Bryce Conrad. “We’re excited that Hydro Ottawa will be one of the first utilities in North America and the first in Canada to deploy this innovative solution from Opower.”
ComEd, BG&E and Glendale Water & Power are among the utilities deploying Opower’s BDR solution this summer. The program will reach 1.5 million homes in 2015 - twice as many as the year before.
“Opower’s software-based approach gives our utility partners an effective tool for delivering significant value to their customers without having to rely on expensive or outdated hardware that only reaches a fraction of their community,” said Opower CEO Dan Yates. “We’re pleased to be able to help Hydro Ottawa bring greater innovation and engagement for their customers.”
