CM Labs Simulations, a vendor for simulation-based training in the utilities, construction and ports industries, has successfully delivered the first Altec-branded simulation system. This simulator, featuring Altec’s proprietary Optiview lever controls, is designed to elevate operator proficiency and success in preparation for certification exams, such as those from The National Commission of Crane Operators (CCO) and Electrical Industry Certification Association (EICA).
Altec, an equipment and service provider for the electric utility, telecommunications, contractor, lights and signs, and tree care markets, will use the simulator within its Altec Sentry training program for digger derrick certification. The Altec Sentry program helps employers train and certify Altec equipment operators. Simulators will be available for purchase through Altec.
“At Altec, our commitment to advancing operator safety through innovative training methods has always been our top priority,” said Andrew Netzel, senior program manager of Altec Sentry. “Partnering with CM Labs has enabled us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in simulation-based training. Their solution has set a new standard in our industry, ensuring our operators are not only well-prepared but also exceed certification requirements.”
CM Labs drew on its extensive experience collaborating with OEMs when developing Altec’s white-label solution, using engineering-grade physics to replicate Altec’s controls and provide the most realistic and authentic machine experience.
“The delivery of this Altec-branded simulator comes at a critical time,” said Lisa Barbieri, VP of Marketing & Strategic Partnerships for CM Labs. “With the heightened focus on safety, efficiency, and certification in the industry, this partnership exemplifies how CM Labs is at the forefront of developing solutions that are not only innovative but also essential for meeting the rigorous demands of today’s workforce.”
The relationship between CM Labs and Altec is pivotal due to the evolving landscape of industry standards and infrastructural demands. As regulatory requirements become more stringent and the need for robust telecommunications and electrical infrastructure grows, there is a pressing need for advanced training solutions. This collaboration directly addresses these challenges, equipping operators with the high-caliber simulation training necessary to meet the rising standards of safety and efficiency in the field.
“The partnership with CM Labs has been transformative for our training programs,” Netzel continued. “From the exceptional quality of their technology to the expertise and dedication of their team, it’s clear that we have found the right partner to help us achieve our goal of setting new benchmarks in operator training and certification.”
The simulator’s immersive three-screen setup, combined with a motion platform and the industry-exclusive Optiview lever controls, delivers a training experience that mirrors real-world operations with accuracy. Specifically engineered to replicate the Altec digger derrick with engineering-grade precision, the scenarios embedded in the system are designed to not only prepare but also challenge operators, ensuring they are fully equipped for the demands of the job.
