EnerNex has announced its role in advancing The U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Community Resilience Planning Guide.
This Community Resilience Planning Guide for Buildings and Infrastructure Systems, now in the implementation phase, is a framework to help communities prepare for hazardous events and to restore vital functions quickly if disruptive incidents occur.
EnerNex Chairman and CTO Erich Gunther is one of eleven NIST Disaster Resilience Fellows nationally recognized in their field of expertise ranging from transportation and water infrastructure to societal dimensions of disasters. As a leader in the electrical power infrastructure space, Gunther brings a breadth and depth of knowledge and experience to advance the Community Resilience Planning Guide.
“The impact of natural disasters on energy infrastructure has certainly drawn attention to the need to build more resilient energy systems,” said Gunther. “The recently released Guide and the groundbreaking work of the Fellows is yet another step in building more resilient communities in the face of any disaster.”
In addition to contributing to the Guide, Erich and the other Resilience Fellows are supporting NIST to establish and provide ongoing support for the Community Resilience Panel through participation in workshops, meetings and development activities for the Guide and Panel. The Panel is a forum to achieve broad stakeholder collaboration and consensus around goals and actions needed to achieve community resilience and to derive benefits from that improved resilience.
