Mexico’s National Electricity Commission (CFE) Chooses OSI Technology for Mexico’s Northwest Region Distribution Network
(Minneapolis, MN) Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) and regional partner, Automatización y Tecnología Mexicana SA de CV (Atemex) have been selected by the División de Distribución Noroeste (Northwest Division) of the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), to supply their next generation SCADA system based on OSI’s monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) platform, intended for the distribution center in the city of Culiacan, in the Mexican state of Sinaloa.
Created and owned by the Mexican federal government, CFE is the largest electric utility in Mexico and one of the largest in North America. The División de Distribución Noroeste is one of several CFE divisions and is responsible for the distribution of electricity to more than 1.7 million customers in the northwest region of Mexico, including the states of Sonora and Sinaloa. This is the second OSI system intended for the División de Distribución Noroeste.
CFE’s new OSI system is set to include the advanced functionality of OSI’s next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI); Dynamic Tabular Display Subsystem; Advanced Alarm Management System; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; Inter-control Center Communications Protocol; Calculation & Scripting Subsystem; and Load Shed and Restoration software products, with monarch interfaces to DNP, SNMP, ODBC and VRTU.
“At Atemex, we have worked with great commitment towards the realization of this project in the Culiacán area for the División de Distribución Noroeste of the Comisión Federal de Electricidad. We have put our best efforts to achieving the implementation of an efficient system, as fast as possible, while still maintaining the highest standards for safety, testing and verification. We are confident that this system will continue in operation for many years and will greatly help the Culiacán area and the División de Distribución Noroeste in their goals of providing world class service to their customers,”said Luis Teran, President of Atemex.
“OSI is proud to continue our expansion in Mexico and we’re honored by the CFE’s continued trust in OSI’s technology. The monarch platform is a great match for the automation needs of the Culiacán area of CFE's División de Distribución Noroeste, one that can be easily expanded to support Smart Grid initiatives. We happily welcome CFE’s Culiacán into our family of users,” added Sergio Bajetti, OSI’s Director for Latin America.
Founded in 1937, CFE (www.cfe.gob.mx) is a Mexican public corporation and government agency, responsible for the control and development of the nation’s entire electric industry.
