Seth Hulkhower
Seth D. Hulkower is the principal owner of Strategic Energy Advisory Services, a consulting and energy project development company.
He has held leadership positions in electric utility operations and management, finance, mergers and acquisitions, project development, power pool operations, power contract negotiations with independent power producers and electric utilities, utility regulation, and power plant design and construction. His experience encompasses strategic planning, utility system management, non-regulated power generation, renewable energy and energy efficiency, asset financing and development, and management consulting.
Mr. Hulkower was the COO of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). At LIPA, he was instrumental in the negotiations resulting in the precedent setting $7 billion takeover of the Long Island Lighting Company. After the takeover, he was responsible for the day-to-day operation of one of the largest public power utilities in the United States, with more than 1 million customers and more than $3 billion in annual revenues.
Before joining LIPA, Mr. Hulkower developed and sought investment opportunities in overseas power projects, including development of wind, natural gas and cogeneration projects in China, UK, Greece, Costa Rica, Australia, Morocco, India, Pakistan and Italy at a time when non-regulated and renewable energy project development and financing was in its infancy in the international market.
Mr. Hulkower holds an MS in technology and policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a BA in economics and a BS in mechanical engineering, both from Tufts University.
Mr. Hulkower has served on the board of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and was a member of the steering committee of the Large Public Power Council.
