National Grid Completes £28m Project to Refurbish Overhead Lines

National Grid has finished work on a £28 million project to refurbish two sections of overhead line which run between Daines near Manchester, Macclesfield and Cellarhead near Stoke on Trent, UK.

The company is now saying a big ‘thank you’ to local communities along the route for their patience during the operation which saw over 100 workers mobilized to replace wires and to repair or renew steelwork on the pylons.

Project Manager, William Fenton said: “We’re extremely grateful for the patience people have shown during this essential project. The positioning of several of the pylons on the line meant that we had to close the Alderley Edge bypass for a period during our work and also close or divert a number of local footpaths.

“We know that this did make life difficult for people, but we were able to work with Cheshire East Council to manage the closures and to keep people informed about them. Our work is now complete and the overhead lines are now in good shape to help shift electricity around the country.”
