Falcon Steel America has completed the delivery of 73 new steel transmission poles for a Texas-based electric cooperative. The new structures replaced aging H-Frame wood poles and are designed to provide the cooperative with more than 50 years of reliable transmission service.
All structures were hot-dip galvanized and featured embedment corrosion protection-coated bases to extend the poles’ usable life cycles. According to Jim Taylor, CEO of Falcon Steel America, all structures were delivered ahead of schedule, with no reported field issues on the expedited delivery, despite a two-week delay caused by heavy rains.
“Because we’re American-based, we can work more flexibly and transparently with our customers than a foreign fabricator is usually capable of doing,” Taylor said.
“This project was a particularly big win for us because, historically, we’ve been known as a leading fabricator of steel lattice towers and substations, and as a whole, the market has been less aware of our pole fabrication capabilities. But over the past year, we’ve made major strides in expanding our pole production capacity, and our efforts are clearly paying off.”
