The Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA) has joined forces with SOS Intl (SOS) to offer distribution operations training to more than 154 municipal and electric cooperative members in the Southeast.
The training targets distribution control center personnel and is also applicable to field operations staff, including linemen and field workers. Trainees receive an overview of the modern electric power distribution system, technical concepts of distribution design, equipment, and operations.
“TVPPA is very excited to have partnered with SOS to offer this training opportunity to our members. As our nation’s electric distribution systems become more complex, it’s important that our personnel are well-trained to respond to system events. TVPPA is committed to provide these resources to our members to allow for a safe and reliable power grid,” says Caleb Hall, manager of education and training at TVPPA.
The training courses being offered to TVPPA members includes topics such as:
- Smart Grid Systems
- Safety for Distribution Systems
- System Protection and Coordination
- Emergency Operations
- Regulatory and Grounding Design
“New technologies and regulations are changing the way our distribution systems are designed and operated. As a result, we need to make sure our operators are trained better than ever to monitor and operate the distribution systems. We used our expertise and experience to develop this training specific to distribution operators,” said Rocky Sease, owner and CEO at SOS.
