Vyyo Inc., a global supplier of broadband access equipment and turnkey customized, private broadband wireless network solutions, has announced that CTO Mike Ritter, Ph.D., will be presenting a case study of wireless automation solutions for the electric utility industry at the Gartner Energy & Utilities IT Summit 2005 later this month.
During the Sept. 26 through 28 conference at the Hilton Austin in Austin, Texas, Dr. Ritter will discuss the successful deployment of Vyyo's wireless solution by Northern Electric Cooperative, a South Dakota provider of electricity and broadband Internet services. Northern Electric is using the Vyyo Utility Solution to enable low latency, real-time SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) monitoring, enterprise monitoring and the delivery of commercial broadband services.
Vyyo has developed an end-to-end wireless solution for utility providers that uses 700 MHz licensed spectrum to provide efficiency by replacing legacy dial-up monitoring with cost-effective high-speed wireless data services. Vyyo's technology enables accurate, real-time assessment of consumption, allowing the reduction of excess power generation or reallocation of power generation. In addition, the Vyyo solution is designed to allow utility customers to generate additional revenues using the same technology by providing high-speed Internet services to rural commercial and residential subscribers.
"The advanced wireless technologies that are being deployed by forward-thinking companies like Northern Electric can deliver positive economic results for utilities at several levels," said Ritter. "In addition to increasing monitoring efficiency and enabling more efficient generation of power, our solution allows our customers to create entirely new revenue streams by bringing broadband services to previously unserved or underserved areas of the country."
