Telvent GIT S.A., the Global RealTime IT Company, has been awarded a contract by CenterPoint Energy, Inc.'s electric transmission and distribution subsidiary to supply a replacement Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Master Station for its Distribution Automation Control System (DACS), which is the primary system monitoring and controlling the company's electrical distribution network beyond the substation.
The new system installation is based on Telvent's OASyS DNA distributed open architecture platform and includes SCADA, historical archiving and Web services. Manuel Sanchez Ortega, Telvent chairman and chief executive officer commented, "We continue to grow the portion of value-added applications in our sales mix. This system upgrade will help CenterPoint Energy achieve increased operational efficiency and improved reliability, which in turn will contribute toward reduced annual operating expenditures and improved quality of service for its electric customers in the greater Houston area."
CenterPoint Energy selected Telvent over other proposed systems for several reasons, including the competitive advantages offered by OASyS DNA. In addition to technology, another important contributing factor was the positive evaluation of the capabilities of the Telvent team to support the migration of CenterPoint Energy's legacy system to the new platform. The new DACS system is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2005.
