Vineland Municipal Electric Utility Enhances Energy Security, Reliability and Grid Modernization

SourceOne, a nationally recognized energy services firm managed by Veolia North America, is serving as owner’s representative for the design and implementation of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the Vineland Municipal Electric Utility. As part of the SCADA project, SourceOne will help implement an improved control system enabling VMEU to more effectively monitor its critical energy infrastructure, improve overall system reliability and troubleshoot system errors remotely. The new SCADA system will also easily enable expansion of the energy system as Vineland’s needs and demands grow.

This latest SCADA initiative is significant as it will ensure that we have the most modern monitoring and control system to deliver power reliably to the citizens of Vineland,” said Thomas Dunmore II, senior engineer at Vineland Municipal Electric Utility.

Slated to be online by the end of 2014, the SCADA system will improve operating reliability during extreme weather conditions and better manage centralized and distributed power generation such as intermittent sources of renewable energy, including wind and solar power. This is particularly important in Southern New Jersey where a large amount of Solar PV capacity has come onto the grid over the past few years.
