CHARLOTTE, N.C. August 9, 2013 – John Spivak joins SOS Intl as Compliance Program Manager. Spivak was most recently with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), where he was Group Manager, Office of Electric Reliability, Division of Compliance since 2008.
At FERC, Spivak was awarded four Quality Service Awards for staff leadership and development, investigation of complex engineering matters relating to the Reliability Standards and the development of technical documents. His responsibilities there included leadership of the Compliance team and the investigation and technical review of bulk power system incidents, notifications, requests, or complaints in partnership with the FERC Office of Enforcement and the ERO/REs.

SOS offers compliance consulting services to help prepare utilities to manage compliance risk. Spivak will be responsible for enhancing the planning, organizing, design and delivery of the compliance program, following FERC, NERC, and RRO methodology, processes and enforcement methods to help ensure client reliability.
In his newly created role, Spivak will monitor and incorporate the constantly changing compliance requirements for SOS clients. Spivak and the compliance consulting team will help clients ensure they are proactively addressing their compliance needs.
Prior to working at FERC, Spivak spent 26 years at Consolidated Edison Company of New York. His roles included Operations Analysis Group Manager, Sequence and Scheduling Manager, Training Manager, and Senior System Operator in their System Operations department. He also served as Manager/Senior Engineer in Operations Planning, Manager of Station Performance Engineering, and Senior Engineer - Vice President Staff at the Indian Point Nuclear Generating Station. He also worked for three years at Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an engineer in service engineering.
Among Spivak’s additional professional accomplishments is his leadership of a three- monthengineering benchmarking/exchange program in Japan with Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), providing recommendations for best practices to senior Con Edison leadership. He also supported NERC Readiness Evaluations by participating in the 2007 evaluation of the Rocky Mountain/Desert Southwest Reliability Coordinator (RDRC).
Spivak received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University under a Research Assistantship and his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from The Cooper Union.
