Smart energy technology firm Lumin, has integrated its software with Enphase and SolarEdge energy storage products, allowing participating homeowners to easily personalize and manage circuits and prolong battery runtime.
A typical house in the U.S. consumes at least 30 kWh per day, and a whole-home backup solution with an industry standard 10kWh battery provides only nine hours of backup operation, which is not ideal during prolonged power outages.
A user can connect an Enphase or SolarEdge battery to Lumin Smart Panel inside Lumin’s app and set their circuit priority depending on battery charge. Once an outage is detected, the system automatically shuts down heavy loads, which typically consist of up to 70 percent of the home’s energy consumption, or lower-priority loads defined by the homeowner, to preserve battery life.
The user may set different battery charge thresholds for different circuits and then interactively choose to bring some of these loads back online using Lumin’s mobile app or allow circuits to automatically turn back on based on priority and battery threshold as the battery recharges.
Beyond power outage support, Lumin also automatically responds to set power limits while off-grid, allowing access to heavy loads without surpassing the power limit and tripping the inverter to ease the homeowner’s experience in maintaining the stability of their home energy usage and consumption.
