ElectraNet has commissioned the 132-kV Eyre Peninsula Link that runs for 270 km from Cultana through Yadnarie to Port Lincoln in Australia. The project, which involved five years of planning and two years of construction, features substation upgrades at five locations and 500 new transmission towers.
“Eyre Peninsula Link is a significant investment in the region, giving residential and business electricity users a more secure and reliable power supply,” said ElectraNet Chief Executive Simon Emms.
An investment of $38 million was made in South Australian businesses, with over $15 million of the total diverted to businesses in the Eyre Peninsula.
The previous transmission line, which required major investment for the replacement of components, was over 50 years old. This led ElectraNet to build a new transmission line. The cost of the project was offset largely by annual support payments on the Port Lincoln generator network and by evading replacement works on the old transmission line. As a result, customers will face a minimal net price impact.
