Sensa’s fiber optic solution utilizes the latest fiber optic technology to provide real-time data for temperature measurements over many thousands of individual points, along the entire length of power cables for distances up to 30 km using a single fiber. The continuous analysis of temperature measurements enables problems to be identified before they become significant.

Using the principles of Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR), pulses of light are fired through the fiber optic cable. These pulses lose energy through scattering during transit as they pass down the fiber through several mechanisms such as vibrations and density fluctuations. The combination of variations in backscattered light intensity and time domain reflectometry are measured to create accurate temperature against distance profiles.

The company will provide tailored solutions for its technology: Fiber optic Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) solutions for power cable networks.
