Eversource Celebrates Arbor Day with Tree Planting and Tips

Arbor Day was April 29, and Eversource celebrated the annual tradition by planting new trees and reminding customers about the importance of planting the right tree in the right place.

“Arbor Day marks a great time of year to plant new trees and encourage property owners to plan before they plant,” said Bob Allen, Manager of Vegetation Management at Eversource. “Trees and power lines can coexist, by considering the height of a mature tree and planting only low-growing trees near utility lines.”

In Sandwich, Massachusetts, Eversource arborists have worked with the town tree warden to identify several declining trees at Grist Mill Park. Earlier this week, Eversource coordinated the removal of the trees that were becoming a threat to public safety and also impacting electric service reliability in the downtown area.  Today, the company and the town are joining forces to plant new, appropriately sized trees at the park.

On Arbor Day, Eversource’s arborist in Western Mass. joined the Town of Amherst’s arborist at Amherst Nurseries from 11 a.m. – noon to share the benefits of planting the right tree in the right place.  The discussion focused on trees and power lines, and highlighted trees most appropriate for planting under or around them.
