Landis+Gyr has secured another big contract in India for more than one million digital meters from utility WBSEDCL, which is the public utility responsible for power distribution in the state of West Bengal and is headquartered at Kolkata.

WBSEDCL is one of the most respected distribution utilities in India and have been aggressively replacing its meter park with high quality electronic meters since 2009. This order is intended for this ongoing grid modernization and electrification efforts. The utility supplies 96% of power in the state of West Bengal, including parts of city of Kolkata.

"We are immensely pleased with the announcement. It is the fifth successive order awarded to us by WBSEDCL. Our commitment to quality and customer focused approach has gone a long way in securing this major order," stated Sandip Mukherjee, CEO for Landis+Gyr India.

Landis+Gyr won the order after having successful met the tough delivery schedule for the earlier 1.5 million meter order received and delivered in 2013. The company's innovative customer focused team and dedicated manufacturing set-up at Landis+Gyr's Joka unit were important differentiators in this latest tender result. Landis+Gyr have supplied a total of 3.5 million meters to WBSEDCL in last 5 years.
