The California Public Utilities Commission has approved San Diego Gas & Electric’s request to implement Itron’s Enterprise Edition Meter Data Management software in support of its Advanced Metering Infrastructure initiative.

In an Energy Division Resolution dated June 7, 2007, the CPUC approved contracts that “would establish a system capable of collecting and storing data from the meters on an hourly basis (and) lays the foundation for implementation of time-varying rates, including time-of-use and critical peak pricing,” according to CPUC documents. “The contracts also include software that will help SDG&E save money by detecting energy theft (and) software designed to help customers manage their bills and lower energy costs.”

IEE will enable SDG&E to efficiently manage interval, register and event data from more than 3.3 million residential, commercial and industrial electric and gas meters.

“We are pleased with the CPUC decision and welcome another leading utility to our base of more than 20 IEE Meter Data Management Customers,” said Eric Miller, vice president of Itron software solutions.
