Itron to Participate in Major Japanese Smart Metering Deployment

Itron, Inc. has announced that the Mitsubishi Electric Corp. will deploy Itron's smart grid software for a major smart metering project with Chubu Electric Power Company, the third largest electric utility in Japan.
Itron, Inc. has announced that the Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (MELCO) will deploy Itron's smart grid software, which manages millions of meters and grid devices globally, for a major smart metering project with Chubu Electric Power Co., the third largest electric utility in Japan. Itron’s smart grid software will provide a critical function within the overall solution, securely collecting high-volumes of data to empower consumers to conserve energy and improve back-end utility processes.
Itron’s flexible OpenWay Collection Engine software will be installed at Chubu Electric to securely collect and relay a high-volume of data from field routers and approximately 10 million smart meters and deliver that data to the utility’s meter data management system. Itron's collection engine will facilitate customer conservation efforts in Japan.
