New Jersey Utility's Field Workers Locate Underground Utilities With Mixed Reality Headsets

Feb. 14, 2018
Augmented reality is helping a utility's field workforce to see underground infrastructure.

At Toms River Municipal Utility Authority, field workers can now locate underground utilities with the help of mixed reality headsets, according to ESRI. To develop the new solution, Meemim Inc. combined and customized three existing technologies--ESRI's GIS system, Microsoft's Azure cloud-computing service and Microsoft's HoloLens. This video shows the basic functionality of the system.
