Stephen Schaefer
Assistant Electric Utilities Director
City of High Point, North Carolina

Stephen Schaefer began his career as a lineman straight out of high school where he learned the basics of how an electric utility system operates. After gaining two years of hands-on experience, he moved into a role in the meter department as meter technician for nine years. Driven by a desire for growth, he transitioned to a neighboring utility where he led the metering, and later the metering and substation departments, for the next several years. During that time, he worked hard at night to complete a bachelor's degree in Accounting, and later a Master's degree in Business Administration. Somewhere in the midst of all of the above he also took about two years off during that time while he worked with a couple of orphanages as a missionary teaching music in Paraguay. The experience he gained in two decades of work in the electric utility industry along with his education led him to accept a role as the Assistant Director of Electric Utilities for the City of High Point a little more than a year ago. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my two little girls.
