Q: I'm a member of a small, rural electric coop in Wyoming. I'm presently in the middle of putting in a net metering solar power system. My contractor/installer has been told that for safety reasons the coop will need to install a cutout that creates a visual open and isolates the net metering service from the rest of the Coop's lines for the safety of any lineman working on the system. My contract states that this is overkill because the system will already be installed with two shutoffs: one manual on the ground mount to the pole and an automatic shut off, if power was to go down at anytime. None of the power suppliers that my contractor has worked for has this requirement. What is your opinion?
