Are your substations, transmission lines, distribution networks and electrical converters and transformers secured? Are they protected against everything from fire, gas, water, dust and rodents to partial discharge activity and electromagnetic interference? If not, it is probably time for you to explore Roxtec sealing solutions.

Roxtec seals for multiple or single cables, pipes, ducts and conduits work as a strong and reliable safety barrier. The base of the mechanical sealing system is as simple as it is ingenious. The transit frame, which can be rectangular or round and of different materials such as steel, aluminum or composite, is attached to the structure. Then the rubber sealing components are adapted to the cables or pipes before the system is sealed with a separate or integrated compression unit. The system simplifies planning, design, installation, and logistics. Engineered for longevity, it also supports sustainability.

Flexibility enabling scalability

The Roxtec invention, Multidiameter™, makes the sealing modules adaptable through removable layers. This flexibility ensures a perfect fit for cables and pipes of different sizes. The seals meet strict requirements and have proven cable retention capabilities to protect against effects of ground settings. Also, they provide built-in spare capacity for upgrades and expansion. They are therefore ideal as a standard solution that enables a safe and efficient energy transition.

Seals for HVDC projects

Long-distance power transmission requires protection of HVDC substations. Roxtec seals provide certified protection for various demanding applications. Besides preventing fire, humidity, dirt, and pests, innovative versions of the seals can help ensure electromagnetic compatibility. It is important to secure bonding, grounding, and protection against airborne and cable-borne electromagnetic interferences as well as making sure the HVDC substation is not a source of EMI to the outside environment.

Seals, services and software

As a trusted technical partner, Roxtec is working with leading HVDC technology providers worldwide. Owners, system suppliers and contractors benefit from the Roxtec sealing expertise and use the transits in walls, floors, cabinets and enclosures to ensure operational reliability. Roxtec also offers services, such as design support, installation training and quality inspections, and software for cable and pipe transit management.

Securing electrical equipment

Roxtec penetration seals help maintain optimum operating conditions for switchgear and equipment in HVDC and AC substations. Using Roxtec seals is a way to reduce the risk of partial discharge failure on switchgear, prevent typical causes of arc, and limit the effects of an arc-flash. The transit frames can be bolted, cast, or welded to the structure and cover a multitude of applications throughout the substations.

Saving space in air insulated substations

A typical challenge in air insulated substations, AIS, is the amount of cables to route and seal, although there is not much space in the electrical enclosures and field cabinets. Many companies choose Roxtec multi-cable seals instead of traditional cable glands to handle high cable density. Thanks to the built-in spare capacity, they even secure a practical possibility to add cables without any need for punching new holes. Roxtec seals are area efficient and openable – and the installation can be done from the inside of the enclosure or cabinet.

Protecting gas insulated substations

The area under a GIS, a gas insulated substation, is normally used for pulling cables. It is important to seal all cable and pipe entries in cable trenches, foundations and walls to avoid partial discharge activity, failure and damage to vital equipment. It is possible to use Roxtec seals under and above ground to prevent flooding and many other threats.

Roxtec UG™ seals for underground use

Roxtec UG™ (underground) seals for cables, pipes and conduits are developed to protect power distribution equipment against environmental ingress in normal and flood conditions. The seals withstand cable bending forces and resist constant water pressure. They are used to prevent corrosion and keep sites dry and safe by ensuring a long-lasting barrier against flooding, gas, humidity and rodents.

Paper on seals for modular projects

Roxtec solutions add value to cost-efficient modular offsite construction by supporting standardization, modularization, and industrialization. When you scale up, you need flexible seals that can be integrated into prefabricated modules and containerized systems to save time, secure compliance, and accelerate deployment. The Roxtec paper – “One modular seal for all modular projects – for efficient standardization, modularization and industrialization” – explains how Roxtec seals, services and software can contribute to streamlined processes, plug-and-play installations and long-term quality control.
